Watch a dog settle in for a serious sleep and he will almost always curl into a tight circle, nose to tail. The Amble Co. Plush Calming Donut Dog Bed is built around that instinct. Its raised plush rim cradles the curled position completely, supporting the head and neck instead of leaving them hanging, while the deep, soft centre lets him sink in like he is being held.

That enclosed, nest-like shape does more than look adorable. The gentle pressure of the rim and the warmth the plush holds around the body have a naturally calming effect, which is why donut beds are so often recommended for anxious dogs, rescues finding their feet, and pups on their first nights away from the litter. Older dogs love it too: the rim doubles as an orthopedic pillow for stiff necks and shoulders. Cats claim them just as happily, so expect negotiations in multi-pet homes once word gets around the house.

The whole bed is plush from every angle, machine-friendly for easy cleaning, and finished with a non-slip base that keeps it put on hard floors. It comes in a full run of sizes and soft colours, so it looks like furniture rather than kit. Give him one winter with it and the cold hard floor will be a distant memory.

  • Raised rim supports head and neck
  • Deep plush centre for burrowing

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the round shape better?

Most dogs curl nose to tail when they properly settle. The round bed and its raised rim support that position all the way round, so nothing hangs off the edge.

Will it help an anxious dog?

The enclosed shape and the light pressure of the rim have a naturally settling effect, which is why these beds are so often suggested for anxious dogs, new rescues and pups on their first nights alone.

Is it any good for an older dog?

Very much so. The rim works as an orthopedic pillow for stiff necks and shoulders, and the deep soft centre takes the hard floor out of the equation.

Can I wash the whole bed?

Yes. It is machine washable and comes out soft, so it stays fresh through regular use rather than becoming something you tolerate in the corner.

Will my cat use it too?

Almost certainly. Cats claim donut beds just as happily as dogs do, so expect some negotiation in a multi pet home.
